The International Finance Corporation (IFC), a member of the World Bank Group, is the largest global development institution focused on the private sector in emerging markets Working with more than 2,000 businesses worldwide, we use our capital, expertise, and influence to create markets and opportunities where they are needed most Visit wwwifcorg The Middle East, North Africa and Horn of Africa ( MENA ) Core Infrastructure Unit (CN3IN), an open and dynamic unit which annually processes approximately 10 large-scale infrastructure transactions, ranging from logistics, power, telecommunication to natural resources, is seeking a Senior Investment Officer (SIO) to join our team The selected candidate will be based in Cairo and will work under the oversight of the New Business Manager, MENA Infrastructure and Natural Resources ( INR ) In addition to covering countries within the MENA region, the candidate is also expected to provide support and coverage to other countries in the Africa region (together the MEA )Within the INR space, telecommunication, media and technology ( TMT ) constitutes an important sub-sector Modern information and communication technologies make it easier for the poor to obtain access to services and resources They expand opportunity and make markets and institutions more efficient IFC works to extend the availability of such technologies We channel investments toward private companies that build modern communications infrastructure, information-technology businesses, and develop climate-friendly technologiesDuties and AccountabilitiesThe candidate is expected to perform the functions of a new business SIO at all material stages of the IFC deal cycle, from deal origination to portfolio management Play senior, client leadership role for MENA INR team with foreseen emphasis on the TMT sub-sector for all of the MENA region with added responsibilities for business development across all infra sectors in Egypt Support and originate TMT initiatives in Africa, working together with other TMT colleagues based in MEA and Washington, DC Develop a strong pipeline of good TMT investment opportunities in the MEA region by anticipating market trends and employing sectorcountry knowledge Supervise a commensurate number of TMT and INR projects in the MEA region and Egypt respectively Work closely with the country and global managers and officers joint work to include developing client, country and sector strategies Evaluate, structure, negotiate, and close new transactions, portfolio restructurings, capital increases, equity sales, etc Review and analyze business opportunities, synthesize information into internal reports for decision making purposes Develop innovative and appropriate financial structures for complex transactions Execute IFC s project development investments with a strong focus on achieving bankable projects Lead upstream initiatives in the TMT space aimed at creating markets, creating opportunities for MEA region countries, including work on key project agreements and project structures Lead negotiationdocumentation teams; use strong negotiation skills to develop solutions and overcome impasses in straightforward and complex transactions Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, global and regional private businesses, banking and multilateral partners and government officials to further develop the sector and to develop specific investment opportunities Lead and manage project teams, mentor and develop junior staff, analysts in the team Collaborate in developing sector andor regional strategies and support related promotion work, including targeting potential investments and policy advisory work Coordinate closely with social, environmental, and technical assistance colleagues to add value to our clients businesses, find pragmatic solutions to the specific sector challenges, and achieve sustainable development impactSelection Criteria MBA or equivalent qualification At least 10-12 years of experience with a development finance institution (DFI), an international financial institution, a private equity firm or a development organization with tasks related to private sector financing and development Proven track-record of sourcing, structuring and closing investments in TMT and other infrastructure sectors, ideally including investments in the MEA region Regional knowledge of countries and understanding of infrastructure challenges faced by countries within the region will be a plus Knowledge of the TMT sector and equity investments Knowledge of the various other infra core sectors (power, transportation, utilities, natural resources) will be a plus Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English backed by examples and references (additional fluency in Arabic language will be given special consideration) Strong credit skills backed by references Strong business development and client relationship skills, demonstrated by track record and ability to focus on clients needs effectively Willingness to travel extensively Financial skills demonstrated ability to structure a variety of complex financial instruments (debt and equity) Strong record of portfolio management of complex projects Sound business judgment in identifying potential business partners Ability to interact directly and independently with the senior management of potential clients, financial and technical partners as well as senior government officials Prior experience of working with IBRD and MIGA will be a plus Strong inter-personal skills, ability to interact effectively with clients and colleagues from various cultural backgrounds Proven ability to mentor junior investment staff Highly motivated, committed to highest ethical standards Genuine commitment to sustainable developmentPoverty has no borders Neither does excellence This is why we continually search for qualified individuals with diverse backgrounds from around the globe We are proud to be an equal opportunity and inclusive employer with a dedicated and committed workforce, and do not discriminate based on gender, gender identity, religion, race, ethnicity, sexual orientation, or disability
