Project Description
The USAID-funded Early Grade Reading and Math Project in Jordan (USAID RAMP) is a nationwide effort designed to improve the reading and math skills of children in Jordan in grades K-3 Specifically, the project works with the Ministry of Education to 1) Develop and distribute improved learning materials to every K-3 classroom in Jordan; 2) Develop improved curricula; 3) Train teachers, supervisors, counselors, and administrators to provide more effective instruction; 4) Promote community participation in reading and math education; and 4) Support nationwide adoption of early grade reading and math policies, standards, curricula, and assessments In partnership with RTI International, the prime implementer of USAID RAMP, Kaizen is providing technical and intellectual leadership of the USAID RAMP community and parent engagement strategy to support parents reading and mathematics-supportive behaviors
Position Description
In close collaboration with Kaizen s home office and field team members, the Volunteer STTA - Senior Education Expert (SEE) will be responsible for providing technical expertise on approaches and methods for organizing parent and community engagement and parental support for children s enhanced reading and mathematics capabilities
This expertise will be captured in materials that will be executed over the next year by Kaizen s Community Mobilization Specialist, a long-term field staff member The materials will draw from RAMP s early grade reading and mathematics approaches, will be developed by the SEE to and be tailored to three levels of individuals supporting parental engagement
Teachers and principals
Field Directorate and Central MOE personnel concerned with PTAs and the Parental Involvement Program
Through hisher work, the SEE will develop specific approaches and guidance regarding parents reading and mathematics-supportive behaviors Based on these materials, the SEE will tailor these approaches and guidance for delivery to the three levels of individuals supporting parental engagement through various Focal Activities
PLEASE NOTE This is a volunteer position and will require both field work in Amman (approx 4 weeks) and work to be conducted virtually Anticipated Dates June 2017 to September 2017
Required education
Master s degree preferred in education, international development, or other relevant field
Required experience
A minimum of 7 to 10 years of professional experience in managing education initiatives on large, complex, donor-funded international development projects, preferably funded by USAID
Experience developing training modules for teachers and principals to support parent engagement, specifically to support early grade reading supportive behaviors, including the interpretation and use of project-developed school reports
Experience in community mobilization specifically in the MENA region
Considerable experience working with a field-based team and partner organization staff
Proven experience developing and delivering training to counterparts to ensure sound educational methodologies are adhered to
Experience with impact assessment and change management preferred
Required skills
Advanced working knowledge of MS Word, Excel, ACCESS andor other relevant programs
Demonstrated ability to establish productive, collaborative relationships with counterparts
Excellent project development and training skills, including experience in the design and facilitation of short- and long-term training programs
Knowledge of USAID contract management, policies, procedures, regulations and reporting requirements
Strong interpersonal and written communication skills
English and Arabic language skills required; French language skills desired
